HP State Vigilance & Anti Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) came into existence in the year 2006, consequent to the merger of the erstwhile Anti-Corruption Unit and Enforcement Department of the State. It started functioning as a separate entity w.e.f. 1st April 2007. The Bureau has 3 ranges i.e.  Central Range Mandi, Norther Range Dharamshala, Southern Range Shimla and SIU at Shimla. It has 13 Police Stations at Shimla, Solan, Nahan, Baddi, Kinnaur, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Lahul & Spiti, Dharamshala, Chamba and Una. The SV&ACB is mandated to investigate cases relating to corruption & economic offences, including the cases under IPC, Prevention of Corruption Act 1988, HP Prevention of Specific Corrupt Practices Act 1983, Essential Commodities Act, Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act 1985, Motor Vehicle Act 1988, The Indian Forest Act 1927, HP Excise Act, The HP Forest Act 1968, Central Sales Tax Act, 1956 and Wild Life Protection Act, 1972. The Bureau initiates enquiries/investigations into complaints/cases against Govt. Servant (Non Gazetted officers and Gazetted officers) after receiving approval from the Govt.  under section 17 A of PC Act (Amended). Besides, the Bureau generates its own source information reports and conducts discrete enquiries. The Govt. also assigns to it other enquiries from time to time. The Bureau also furnishes vigilance clearance certificates (VCC) at the instance of the Govt. in favour of Officer / Officials of Govt. Department.
